Introduction

AI Chat for Lawyers is a cutting-edge platform designed to simplify legal research and consultation. However, its initial version lacked an efficient follow-up system, leading to user frustration and competitive disadvantages. My primary challenge was to design a seamless follow-up feature that empowers users to continue their conversations, receive clarifications, and enhance their overall experience.

Challenges & Pain Points

Lack of Follow-Up Capabilities: The initial version of AI Chat for Lawyers lacked an efficient follow-up system, making it difficult for users to continue the conversation or seek clarification on their legal queries after the initial interaction.
User Frustration & Drop-Offs: Users expressed frustration when they were unable to obtain more detailed information or clarification on specific legal matters. This led to a high bounce rate and a decrease in user engagement.
Competitive Pressure: Competing platforms were gaining traction by offering comprehensive follow-up features. This raised concerns about AI Chat for Lawyers losing its market share and user base.

Project Goals

In response to these challenges, our primary project goals were:

Reduce Customer Service Overload: Implement a follow-up system to decrease repetitive user inquiries to human representatives.
Empower Users with Self-Resolution: Introduce interactive self-service tools, allowing users to resolve their legal questions independently.
Enhance User Experience: Redesign the chat interface to provide intuitive, efficient, and engaging interactions.

By addressing these goals, we aimed to create a win-win situation: alleviating customer service overload while providing users with a more satisfying and efficient experience when dealing with delivery-related issues.

Competitive Research & Insights

In response to these pain points, I conducted an in-depth competitive analysis to understand the landscape of AI-driven legal consultation platforms.

The key findings from this research included:

In the AI chat platform landscape, a variety of features are prevalent, designed to cater to the unique needs of users across different domains. This understanding of diverse feature sets allows UX/UI designers to make informed decisions for designing engaging and competitive user experiences. Customizable Conversational Styles: Some platforms enable users to personalize the conversational style of chatbots or virtual assistants, tailoring the language, tone, and personality to create more personalized interactions.

Designing the Follow-Up Feature

Building upon the competitive research findings, I proposed a comprehensive follow-up feature for AI Chat for Lawyers. This feature included the following components:

Seamless Follow-Up Messaging: Users could initiate follow-up conversations with lawyers or the AI chatbot with a single click, located within the chat interface.
Notification System: Users would receive push notifications and email alerts when a response to their follow-up query was available, ensuring timely engagement.
Document Upload: Users could attach pertinent documents or files to their follow-up messages, allowing lawyers to provide more accurate guidance.
Estimated Response Times: To manage user expectations, an estimated response time was displayed, reducing uncertainty and frustration.
User Feedback and Ratings: Users could provide feedback and ratings for the quality of service received during follow-up interactions, contributing to continuous improvement.

Designing the Enhanced Follow-Up Feature for Improved User Experience

As part of our efforts to enhance the AI Chat for Lawyers platform, I took on the task of designing a follow-up feature that not only simplifies user interactions but also adds convenience and efficiency to the consultation process. Here are the key elements and improvements that were incorporated into the design:

One-Click Main Skills Categories

To streamline user access to specific legal topics, we introduced a set of main skills categories prominently displayed at the top of the interface. This allows users to easily click on their desired category, instantly focusing the AI's responses on their specific legal area of interest.

Increased Width of Text Input Field

Recognizing the importance of user comfort, we widened the text input field to provide a more spacious and visually comfortable text entry area. This enhancement ensures a more pleasant and user-friendly experience, especially during extended conversations.

"Renew Topic" CTA

In response to users' need for seamless continuation of conversations, we introduced a "Renew topic" call-to-action (CTA). Users can now effortlessly renew their existing topics or send new requests, promoting efficient communication without disruption.

"View Full Document" CTA

Understanding the value of detailed information, we added a "View full document" CTA. This feature allows users to access complete documents related to their legal queries, providing comprehensive context and ensuring users have all the necessary information at their fingertips.

Expandable Component for Multiple Documents

For scenarios involving multiple documents, we introduced an expandable component within the chat interface. Users can easily switch between tabs to view and access various documents, eliminating the need for cumbersome scrolling or switching between multiple windows.

Print Option

Recognizing the importance of document accessibility, we included a print option. Users can now easily generate hard copies of relevant documents for reference or legal proceedings, further enhancing the practicality of the platform.

Improved Visual Design

Lastly, we paid meticulous attention to the visual design, making it not only attractive but also appealing. An aesthetically pleasing interface fosters a positive user perception and ensures users engage with the platform with confidence.

Prototyping & Implementation

I developed a comprehensive prototype to enable engineers to understand the technical requirements and implementation details, allow stakeholders to provide valuable feedback and insights, and present a polished representation of the product, ensuring alignment and clarity throughout the development process.
